Rockefeller? Hearst? No... Netflix.

It is pretty easy to speak in hindsight how a company could out-preform prior expectations. The easiest way to put it is that Netflix saw where entertainment could go, and not adding to what already existed. Much of this adds insult to injury when 2000, Blockbuster CEO, John Antioco, passed up purchasing Netflix for 50 million dollars. The company is now worth 200 billion.

Blockbuster failed in the market because it refused to adapt to the changing world and wanted to hold on to their in-store, novelty experience. Nostalgia, sadly, only gets companies so far. We live in a world that is constantly thinking, "How can I do/get this with the least amount of effort, money, and time". We are a society that has adapted to embody the notion that convenience is key.

Netflix also began making strides in producing their own content. Much of which had achieved accolades for their performance, production, or story-line. Netflix made an impact with notable productions such as Orange is the New Black, House of Cards, Stranger Things, 13 Reasons Why, The Crown, Ozark. The list has grown so much over a five year period and is constantly a source of buzz on social media. Even shows such as Tiger King and Outer banks have almost completely taken over platform talk and without such recognition.

Netflix is the marketing king. They have the reputation for never ending content and the social media buzz to make sure that if you have not viewed their current top ten, you're considered socially inept. While also keeping the classics abundant to fit the needs of the majority. How many of us do not regularly view The Office or Friends? Maybe even both. The point is, Netflix has invaded our living rooms by providing enough content, in the least amount of time, to keep people watching. That is Netflix's goal, if they can't stop watching, they will never get rid of their service.

Why are we still taking about religion? Distraction is now the opiate of the masses. Revert, Direct, Distract. It is interesting to see the progression of convenience in our society. However, until another kingpin steps up to take the spotlight, we will just have to bow down to our opiate; A streaming platform.
